While hunting near Lookout pass, our hounds were attacked by wolves.  Our People dog was ripped apart and partially eaten.  We found her dead, another dog has suffered multiple injuries, some that caused him chronic pain and suffering. He had to be put down last week.  In my experience with dealing with the biologist and game wardens they always seem to pick the side of the wolves.  It seems they deny "wolf kills" in order to either not pay out what was lost, or are trying to keep the wolves off the "naughty list".  I am not sure.
In Future if I Ever got the oppertunity to hunt the same areas again.  I have worked countless hours training and caring for my beloved pets/hunting partners.  I know that there is a chance we could encounter wolves again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent the authorties of turning their back on me if another one of our dogs is injured of killed?  I believe WA state is required to replace ($) what was lost.  How do i prevent them from covering up another kill?

Mulehunter, I understand how you must have felt having one dog killed on the spot by wolves and another that suffered from the attack until it finally died. I know you are very close to your dogs and that they mean a lot to you.

I worry about the same thing. But, I don't think there is a way to hold any government agency responsible or it would have occurred in the past. Many hunting dogs, herding dogs, and family pets have been killed by wolves in Idaho, Montana, Wisconsin, and now yours in Washington. I think there has been some re-imbursement for loss of herding dogs, but I have not heard of anyone getting any kind of reimbursement for their loss of hunting dogs or family pets. Now that Defenders of Wildlife have discontinued their reimbursement program, I don't know if there will be any re-imbursements for any dogs killed by wolves.

Perhaps the best plan is to request a better re-imbursement program in the Washington Wolf Plan. Currently there are some provisions for livestock loss re-imbursement. It certainly seems that if Washington wants to build up wolf numbers they should be willing to pay for all losses caused by these wolves that are being forced upon us.  :twocents:

As sad and angry as this may make you  hear me out..... I hope you took pictures and documented everything that happened.  I think the only way to hold the GOV accountable is to have a document  packet with pics and facts from the event and statement form vets etc... I Feel your pain as a dog owner... I'm unsure if i could do this myself, however if i could make the fire burn in my belly to fuel the Debate/Discussion/Education of everyone... Use this event as a platform to show the general public about the wolves... I'm sorry for your loss.... Use this event to stick your finger in their eye
