Bittersweet 1st day

I have never had a plan work like today.  I've been watching three bucks for over two weeks and today was up on a hill about 45 minutes before daylight.  As soon as I could see I was able to start picking out deer in the wild bunchgrass fields.  I spotted the three working to the scab rock for the day and planned a intercept.  It actually worked!  Wind was perfect and they walked to 60 yards when I took the shot.  I forgot again this year that my gun always shoots a bit high from a clean barell but the .54 patched round ball literally knocked him off his feet.  I was shooting 90 grains of FFg real blackpowder with no wind at the time of shot it took a bit to see if I had hit him..lol..He was done when I walked up.  The round took out a lung turned up and I found it on the off side hide.  After snapping pics and pulling him out I was back home at noon.  Soo good thing I filled my tag this year as I dont have any of that stuff call vacation time this year..lol..sad that it is over however..lol..I went back to the store and bought a black bear/cougar tag for maybe next weeked if I can find a old apple orchard up north..lol

Off the wall question for someone.  My rifle is a Great Plains in .54 cal.  Does anyone make a barel that would enable me to shoot shot?  I would really like to have a bp shotgun but not spend 800.00 on one right now.

Another route for a shotgun, is to find a Thomson New Englander, and order a 12 ga. barrel for it. I bought a new TC 12 ga. barrel from the TC gun shop 3 years ago. Cost for the barrel was just over $200. It takes choke tubes and has performed well.

You might possibly find a used CVA or other shotgun for a reasonable price.

A muzzle loading shotgun is a lot of fun, the only way to go for turkey hunting.

I have a T/C New Englander in .50 that I have never fired and just sits in the safe taking up space. Might be a good use for it. I was actually thinking of getting rid of it.
