Cuzz got a Buck down! PICS JUST ADDED*****
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:09:44 PM »
Been a great early season so far, lots of bachelor groups of bucks. We goofed up on the biggest buck of the the day. His tri pod clanked :bash: then the buck was on high alert. Then busted before he got a shot. Went and check one of my hot spots, found a group of 3. He shot the biggest a solid 3x3 with eye guards. very symmetrical buck. He has the pics and will post a story later i am sure, as well as pics.

So I am Carp's cousin who shot the buck today that he mentioned. Here is the quick and dirty. Him and I each have the multi-season deer tag and LOVE the late season, so the early season is best for getting out of the house and scouting for other family members who hunt the rifle season. He mentioned to me yesterday that he was seeing more deer than normal for the early season so I decided to get my butt up and see what the deal was. Hunted last night and only saw a couple bucks including a decent 3X4 w/ eyeguards (decided not to go after him). This AM we were lucky enough to see quite a few legal bucks, but nothing I really wanted to go after. Around 8:00-8:30 I spotted a rack in the grass/sage and glassed him to see that he was a nice 3X3 with eyeguards (cousin named him hercules because of mass mostly). He was 285 yards and dozing in and out of sleep. We stalked within 65 yards of him and by the time that I finally decided I wanted to take him, he was smart enough to get the H out of dodge.  :bash: :bash:

After that encounter I was pretty sure I was going to give my cousin heartburn for the rest of the day. At about 10:30 we decided that it was getting warm enough that we should take one last look into a timbered area (oak trees) to see if anything was shaking up there. As we came up over the ridge carpsniper spotted some bone sticking up out of the tall sage and we glassed them and found a 3X4 with eyeguards, a 3X3 with eyeguards, and a smaller 3X3 (not even on the radar at this point). We quickly decided that the buck to shoot was the 3X3 with eyeguards as he was taller and a lot better looking deer than the 3X4. My buck finally cleared the sage (and the other two bucks) and gave me a broadside, 78 yard shot. I took the shot and all I saw was smoke. My cousin heard the hit and as we came up on where the deer were my buck was on the ground. I hit him a little high and broke his back. After a quick kill shot he was finished and I could finally appreciate him and put my hands on him. He is a very symmetrical 3X3 and is my best deer ever. This was probably the most fun I have had on a hunt in a while, we were laughing and having a good time the entire time. I still think my cousin is having heartburn over that first stalk!!! LOL.

Oh, and one more thing. A big THANKS to my cousin, Matt, who puts up with my $h*t and takes me hunting and especially helping me cape this buck out. It was a blast and I really do appreciate it.

Pretty buck!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
