Another Homebrew Camera Complete!
« on: October 04, 2010, 09:15:02 AM »
Here's my fourth attempt at making homebrew trail cameras.  This build is a Sony W-80 with 3C batteries for external power.  It has a Vivitar 2800 external flash with 4C batteries for power.  It uses a Snapshot Sniper brand Simple Sniper motion sensing board with their HPWA fresnel lens (High Performance Wide Angle).  It has a Bigfoot Outdoors slave flash charge controller board.  I removed the IR filter in the camera lens and put 830nm infrared glass from Night Hunter on EBay over both the camera flash and the much larger 2800 flash.  The case is a Pelican 1060.  The PVC for the lock and attachment straps on the back were an honest mistake.  I had planned on putting a pipe through the center of the inside, but I forgot until it was too late and I had glued the battery holders in the way, so adding it to the back was a decent recovery even though I then had to add two so it would hang right on a tree.  The camo job is Liquid Nails applied via stick, ruddy red spray primer, Krylon Camo ultra-flat khaki tan, and a light dosing of flat black with a weed held over it for the highlights.  Enjoy!

Here's some samples from similar cameras I have built.  Basically you get a regular digital camera picture.  The modification to get infrared flash turns the pictures pink but still good quality.
