muzzy buck down
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:40:26 PM »
I just got back from the blues on a muzzy deer hunt. I was able to get a 4x4 mule deer yesterday morning. Timberstalker set the bar high for us with his big 5 point mulie, Good job Dan. Here is the story- Dad dropped a friend and I at the bottom of a canyon at daylight, so we went up the canyon where I thought there might be deer since we were not seeing much anywhere else (being 80 degrees out did not help) I seen 3 bucks (two 2 points and a 4 point) with 4 does but they were about 300 yards away on an open hillside I crawled on my hands and knees to try to close the distance, when I got within 150 yards they busted out the top. On the the next canyon we go, We find them in the bottom of the canyon feeding, again I was about 250 yards away on a open hillside. I made my way down to the bottom and got within 150 yards and settled in to take the shot, when I shot he bucked up like he was hit and they all ran up and over the top again. I went up to look for blood and could not find any, but was sure I hit him. So on to the next canyon we go, again we find them in the bottom feeding, my friend worked his way to the other side of the canyon knowing that if they busted they were going over the top again. I crawled on my hands and knees again to get within range. I settled in for the shot guessing the yardage at about 160, (I forgot my rangefinder) and took the shot, he flipped over backwards and rolled into the brush. once I got to him and rolled him over I seen that my first shot grazed the bottom of his chest. we gutted him and quartered him up and packed him out about 5 miles up and down the canyons we chased him through. Oh and we ran out of water before I even killed him so it was 4 hours in the heat with a heavy heavy pack and no water. We are going back on friday to try and fill my muzzy cow tag. I will post pictures as soon as I can.

That will work.  Meat on the table.  I have one more to fill with my second deer tag if I can get out.
Cut em!

Jeremey,
Absolutely awesome man!!  I am glad that you guys stuck it out and stayed around.  It was definetly "rough conditions" with the weather you had.
Helluva story and one that you will not forget.
Great buck.
