Picked up a new rod and reel
« on: September 27, 2010, 09:31:05 PM »
I picked up a 15 foot center pin St. Croix and a Shamano 3000.  I can now throw a wad of eggs 70 yards.   Now I have to try it...

Nice. I've been eyeing a 12'3" Loomis lately for the Cowlitz. That St Croix should do you well. You going to use it for salmon or just steelhead? Seems a little light for 'nooks.

I will be honest... I am a virgin for catching salmon and steelhead.  I have caught pinks but I still have not anything else.  I have spent hours down on the Cowlitz trying to figure it out.  It is just a matter of time before I actually learn enough to catch one of those darn things.

Took me a few tries to catch my first steelhead there. Jig and bobber is the only thing that has worked for me so far.
