Has anyone here ever hunted around Hoodoo Peak in the Alta Unit?

I've hiked around those parts scouting but never hunted up there. If I recall correctly there are a few horse camps around there and cub lake. The back side of hoodoo peak looked nicer then the side closest to libby lake. Good luck. There are a ton guys on here that know that area better then me. Hope ya get the info your looking for.

Yep no dee    and I'm guessing you have never been there.  Hoodoo is all cliffs.

Lots of outfitters camps!! If you think you can walk in a short ways see a legal deer and haul it out boy are you mistakened. The area is plenty steep but is more of a migration route so if you have a late tag go for it.

Yep!   Killed the biggest buck of my life there.  Really had no problem telling the world about it either as its not a place you have to worry about over running.   By the way after said adventure I haven't been back.

bone it sounds like you bit off a big chunk there. Be prepared if you head in there the weather can go bad pretty fast. Good luck smoke a biggin.

Well there is probably a huge buck there, but I sure as hell don't want to pack another one off that chunk of rock.   I swear that was the biggest hell hole on earth.   20 years later means the devils club is just that much bigger, and so is the alder.    i'd gladly send some you lurkers there.

I have to agree that is is (or was) a hell hole!  I hunted it for a couple of days and then headed towards the lake.  I shot my biggest mulie above Cub Lake and packed it all the way down to Lake Chelan.  Not fun country either way to pack out an animal without livestock.

The deer are very few and far between but as with anywhere in the back country there are some big ones around.  As mentioned, this is very back country and the snow can bury you overnight.  Most people have given it up back there recently because of the lack of animals and the ruggedness.  You would definately want a horse are motorbike to ride the trails.

When the snow comes, you better hope you have a copter!!!  Did see the most grouse in my life up there, partner caught one by it's legs as it flew over, about '93 or so.  Haven't thought about going back, figured it's mostly a horse camp show during the season.

We did our annual labor day weekend grouse trip over there this year and it was the worst ever!  Got one grouse, we used to come back with at least twenty.  Definately been on a downhill trend the last few years.  They used to be running around like chickens back there but not any more.

I've been saying this for the past two years with the very wet springs we've had, yet, others insist on arguing.  It's disappointing, because chasing those big B52's is one of my favorite things.

I'm not argueing with ya thats for sure.  The last two springs have been really bad for their hatch.  I guess there are some pockets with birds and thats what keeps em going.
