First Turkey!
« on: September 27, 2010, 01:57:58 PM »
First of all thanks to everyone on the board that has been a huge help.  Especially Machias and Turkey Dancer.  Went with my 12 year old and on Saturday we had our first chance to shoot but spooked the birds when they got in close and we hadn't set up right.  Went back the next day, called them in close, and this time I had a good shot and took it.  Lots of lesson learned like NO talking or moving around once the birds get close.  It was a ton of fun.  We both ended up safe and no beard!  Tried to get one that wasn't a really young bird but also not the biggest hen either.  I hope to get my son a shot on our next trip.  Thanks again!

Hey Ke Ke,

The knife was my son's that he got at Bi-Mart, nothing fancy.  It is a Smith and Wesson boot knife, H.R.T.  It did the job!  -Neil

Good job.  My dad and friend just got back yesterday for muzzleloader and didn't even work on getting some birds to eat.  I might make the journey next year.

It was good to meet you and your son Doc and glad you met with some success.  :IBCOOL:

I was lucky enough to fill all my tags and my buddy filled 1 out of 2 ... not too bad.  Would of liked to have you guys with me Monday morning when 16 came in to 10 yards ... took out a big hen so now need to go buy some "Yelper-Helper".

Hope to see you in the turkey woods again ...   :hello:
