CABELAS KIT HAWKINS, .54
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:20:56 PM »
Anybody have this gun. i have a multi season tag this year so going to take it for a walk this weekend. i'm shooting 90 grains of triple F. blackpowder, pushing a 375gr bullet. got it dead on at 50 yards, wondering what its drop would be at 75 yards. will fine tune if needed for the late season, but no time for right now.

you might want to shoot it and see what it is doing on paper at 75 if you want to shoot that far. my uncle bought the kit a long time ago and built his and he has taken a deer with it. that was a great hunt with that gun. the deer was about 40 yards in the fog and when my uncle clicked the set trigger. the deer looked right at us right before the shot.

First ML I owned and still have it as a back up.  I shoot 110fff/425 gr Buffalo and get 6 inch or less groups at 75 yards. Great gun :twocents:

Thanks guys. no time to shoot it for this weekend. just shot it recently and am good to 50, just wondering about the drop from 50 to 75, with that load i'm shooting, may add an extra 10 grains of powder for the heck of it.

That was my first muzzy and its a great gun!! The drop from 50 to 75 will not be much, an inch or two.  from 50 to 100 yds with 100 grains of Pryodex RS I have about 4 inches of drop.  Adding another 10 grains of powder can increase your shot by 7 inches at 50 yds.  So not recommended if you haven't shot that charge yet.

good to know. i'll keep it at 90 fff. i agree i should know more on this, but i didn't think i would muzzy hunt with this multi season tag, now i find i have a day or two.  prior to the late season i'll shoot it more if necessary. its also got me pissed that i spent so much on two custom rifles, as i now see a real advantage in muzzy hunting opportunities. will be thinking hard on muzzy for next year.

Great gun.  Don't recall the drop but you can have confidence in that rifle.
