83 degrees for opening day...?
« on: September 29, 2010, 09:27:57 PM »
Based on the unbelievably high temperatures over in my area, I have postponed my moose hunt a few days.  Friday through Sunday is looking like 80+ degrees.  I'll head out first part of next week, when the temps are predicted to be in the low 60's.  As if I haven't waited long enough...  :bash:   Hopefully I will have a story and pics by the end of next week, but I won't be rushing things.  I'll be holding out for the right bull.  Thankfully I have a flexible schedule and can take as much time off as necessary.  If I don't score in the first week, I'll return home, then head back over in late Oct or early Nov for another week.  I hate missing opening day... I have missed a few in years past, and I usually sit around all day stewing about what I'm missing.  But 83 degrees??  If I get a bull down in the morning it could easily spoil before I could get it out.  I'll be hunting alone for the most part.  Not to mention the damn bees.

Good luck to all this season!

Nothing witty here.... move along.

Smart move, I wish I had done that a couple of years ago when I had the tag, temps were in the low 80s for the first 3 days, hunting was ok, but it was much better once the temps cooled off.  It will be worth the wait trust me.

the heat really doesnt matter, the mountain temps are far different from temps that u get your forecast from in the nearby cities and the highs are brief this time of year

Hunting season open when it's in the 80s?  Frickin WDFW!!  :chuckle: :chuckle:
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Dang. Now they control the temps also! All I know is I'll be on the mountain with 2 bike trailers, a meat cart, Extra coolers with blocks of ice in the truck and a meat locker near by. Oh and enough good friends to help get it done as quick as possible. I'm starting tomorrow.

Update... now the forecast is for 86 degree weather on Friday.  My unit is within sight of town, so the temps are pretty much the same.  Good luck tmike!

It was hotter then hell in '08 for my moose hunt in the 49 unit. The moose were very callable. Mornings and evenings.

I just looked at the weather again and it looks like they are cooling down what they predicted. Looks like Sunday it is supposed to be in the 60's with a chance of a shower... Atleast where I will be at. Should be fun. I am headed out tomorrow. Good luck Hyde hope to see some pics soon!
