Which Remington to get?

So I have been looking at purchasing a Remington 700 in 7mm-08. Problem is I cannot decide between the CDL or the SPS Stainless. I like the wood and feel on the CDL. I like the stainless and not as much of a fan of the stock on the SPS. This would be an all around firearm. I don't need a stainless over a blued and Vice Versa. Does anyone have any experience with either of them. Price is really what is setting it apart. Less for the SPS, but considering $250.00 for a stock upgrade... What do you guys think? Any difference in accuracy, Etc? Thanks!!!

If you have to have a Remmy, I'd get the Mountain Rifle LSS.
Next would be the CDL.
I do not own any 700's but looked real hard at the Mountain Rifle LSS when I bought my Tikka.

Stainless looks nice, but can give you away when the sun hits you on a hill side.  I'd stay with blued.

i think the biggest difference is the X-Mark Pro trigger that the CDL has that the SPS doesn't.  I absolutely love the adjustable trigger since the factory pulls on the SPS and ADL are way too stiff in my opinion. If you are considering a $250 stock upgrade, I'd go with the CDL, plus Remington is having a $100 rebate right now till Dec. 31.

i've always been a remington guy and probably will always be.  i of course bought the XCRII before the rebate in .300 win mag and love it.  a CDL in 7mm looks to be running $750-$850 so with the $100 off, basically get it tax free plus enough for a box of shells. 

just my opinion, i like the corrosion resistance of stainless but not the silver look (which is why i went with the xcrii) and the xmark pro trigger, which i believe is 3.5 lbs factory and feels like a hair pin full compared to sps/adl factory and took me a little bit of getting used to but is much easier to shoot then squeezing what seems like a few seconds before it fires.

i really don't think there will be much difference in accuracy with the different models, just a matter of what you are looking for in looks, feel, and overall craftsmanship.

If you like the wood and feel of the CDL get it. If the price is going keep you from purchasing, then get the SPS matte. If you are going to wish you would have bought the CDL instead of the SPS, save a little more money. I have shot one out of the box SPS in .270 and it shot well. Yes, the SPS has an injection molded stock and plastic trigger guard. Both rifles should put meat in the pot. Either way you might want to pay an hours labor for a trigger job.

I have an SPS, not stainless, it's blued.  I love that gun. I used to be stuck on wood stocks because they look so much nicer, but now I own several sythetics, and honestly I like not having to worry about nicking the wood stock if I hunt in rough country.
Keeping in mind what oltHunter said though, I would probably go with the CDL if it has the X-Mark trigger.  I know that I have to take my rifle to a buddy of mine to adjust the trigger, because I don't trust myself to work on Remmington triggers, and the trigger is a BIG part of your accuracy.  The factory set trigger pull on the SPS was definitely too heavy for me.  I like to set mine at around 2 lbs.

Great info, Cost is not a problem with the rifle, I just was not sure of the overall benefits of one over the other, The rebate is a huge plus though!

If cost is not a problem, then I'd go with the CDL, just for the trigger like I said.  And this is coming from a guy who owns an SPS and loves it.  Can't go wrong with any model of the Remmington 700.  You'll probably pass it down to your grandkids and they'll be hunting with it 50 years from now...

Before you buy it make sure check how well it's seated.  I nearly bought one at the Cabela's in Lacey but noticed how cockeyed the barrel was in the stock.  I had the guy behind the counter try to slide a paper under the barrel and it would only go about half way. Glad I didn't get burned.

I talked with another guy about them and he said that a lot of the 700's of the last few years have been poorly seated, likely because of some sort of shortcut taken to cut costs at the factory. 

They are still fine rifles, just make sure you don't buy one of the lemons.

Just a little insight on the stainless. you can paint it whatever color you want in a flat color. When you want it to shin or want a different color just clean it off the barrel

If you go on Gunbroker, you can find smoking deals on M700 XCRs in 7mm-08.  I saw one NIB for $599.

Is this only on the later 2010's or early 2011's. I have not seen that trigger in the SPS, nor is it mentioned being in them on the Remington site?

I've got the SPS Buckmaster. Blued, matte finish, nice enough stock. Still getting used to the feel of a Synthetic. Not the best trigger I've pulled, but good enough to put changing it way down on the To Do list

Just looked on their site and maybe they got rid of it on the SPS and are putting it on the more expensive rifles now?    The SPS info doesn't say it is available, but when looking at the trigger page it says it is now standard on 700 rifles.

doesn't the CDL have a longer barrel than most of the other rifles mentioned?  i think it's something like 24".  might consider a .270 over a 7-08 in that length.

I have a cdl and absolutely love it! i've shot a 8in group at 705yds with berger bullets, not bad considering the gun is bone stock.

Thats good, at least a $2600.00 setup! Sako Love them I have a Finnlight, in 260 rem. Tikka WAAAAAYYY to much plastic for my taste, pretty ugly to boot. Plus I like to get as close as possible before I shoot, less walking to do! But I like the way you think, Maybe I should get both!!!!!

I have the sps tactical in 308 and love the way it shoots with fedral 168 barnsx , had to play with the trigger now about 2lbs . the 20 inch barrell shoots well in 308

Ya it is an expensive setup. Its my dream setup. I went with the tikka t3 300 wm with a Bushnell laser rangefinder scope with the bullet drop compensating turret. Very happy with the setup. Using hornady superformance 165 grain sst's. The laser rangerfinder in the scope is awesome. Just look at the yardage display in the reticle, dial in the distance on your turret,  dope your wind and hold dead on. I have to say it works like a dream. I'm still practicing with the the windage, but on a calm day......600 yards is no problem. Have a buddy who's real good with windage who shoots out to 800 with his. Love the action on the tikka. Beautiful trigger pull. Same as the sako......tikka t3 is a great accurate rifle. Its guts are the same as sako, just not as handsome. Way better rifle than any remmy or savage that's for sure. At least in my humble opinion.

All right, I decided this weekend and got it! I went with the 700SPS Stainless, It did have the X-mark pro Trigger. That is what pushed me in that direction. Along with not having to worry about a safe queen with the wood. I put a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 scope on it with leopold rings and bases. $40 rebate on the rifle, lifetime no fault warranty on the scope. I'm pretty happy with the feel so far. I'll be working up some handloads for it soon! Thanks for all of your opinions, ideas and 2 cents!!!!

Should be a good rifle for you. Mine, with factory ammo, gets less than 3/4MOA at times and has even put a couple through the same hole at 200 yards. Then again I usually screw it up with the third shot, but the rifle can shoot... even if I can't
