Hornady Lever Evolution Rifle Ammo
« on: August 31, 2010, 05:09:08 PM »
Just bought acouple boxes and was wondering if anyone on he has used them before? I'm got them for my .35 rem. I also picked up the pine ridge rifle scope hoping to get everything in time for deer season this year.

I've used it in my 45/70. Worked well but I think it's sort of a soft bullet. I shot some old magazines and the bullet completely fragmented. Anyways it seems to be very accurate and it does kill antelope very well.

I'll be hunting blackies with it ..and where I'll be the longest shot wont be over 150 yards. Think that should be ok?

I'll agree with Carpsniperg2 and Gutpile, the loads shoot well but the bullets are a little soft. I've tried the ammo in 44, 45, 45-70, 450 Marlin, 30-30, and 35 Rem. All except the 450 Marlin were out of handguns. I think that the bullet is great for the lower handgun velocities, but it didn't hold up that well out of the rifle. Think of it as a 45 caliber ballistic tip.

Well went out and sighted in my rifle last weekend. So far I'm happy with the performance of this bullet. The real test will hopefully come this season. I'm sure if i connect I will share the details. Thanks for all the replies

I've used them for a year or two but haven't had the chance to shoot any animal with them yet. They seem to shoot well out of my Marlin 336 30-30. Supposed to get another 50-75 yard usefulness from them.
They do have the bullets available for handloaders now. Problem is finding data. I did get some from the Hornady site last year and tried them out. Seemed to shoot as well as the factory. I don't have a chrono so I don't know how they stack up ballistically yet. Chrono is on my "wish list" for whenever the Obamaconomy is over.  >:(
If man was not supposed to eat animals, God wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Wife uses them in her 30-30.
She shot her doe last year in the neck. She was aiming at the shoulder and ,well she's new and it was her first deer.
It punched a small hole in and out and severed the artery inside the neck. Not much blood coming out. The gut cavity was full of blood.
We tracked the doe and found her about 200 yrds away, rocking back and forth. She shot her through the lungs and she went down. better expansion the second shot.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I havent shot an animal with them but it did improve the accuracy out another 50 yds.  I chose them as my hunting load. For what its worth.

My Marlin 336 shoots them very well. Best I have found for accuracy in my 30-30. I haven't killed any animals with it yet, I just cant leave the .270 at home!
