bowfishing for pike... legal?
« on: February 05, 2011, 09:02:34 PM »
Ive always been under the impression NO. Pike is a gamefish so not legal, but Ive heard from others it is legal. Pike have no minimum size/bag limit so maybe? Any help?

What state are you asking for? The best bet is to call the fish and wildlife officers and ask them. That is one of those few bowfishing questions that I can't answer. Post up what you find out. I know of some guys in AK that do it.

That would be the best, since it is not listed in the regs. Kinda like some of the ocean fish. You can bowfish for some of them and not others. But "most" fish that have no bag limits and size limits are o.k. But check before you shoot :IBCOOL:

Where are there enough pike in this state to bowfish them?

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Quadrafire your right. PO river is where I had in mind. Some days they wont look at your lure, but lay up in the shallow water highly visible. I've seen pike pushing 30 lbs, and caught a few pushing 20 out of there. I'll try to post a pic.
