Ryderwood GMU 530
« on: October 05, 2010, 09:00:03 PM »
I was just curious if anybody had any success in the ryderwood (530) so far this early season. I havent seen squat its been quite discouraging, i feel like this unit has been going down hill slowly over the last 5 years. Ever since weyerhauser dont want to open gates for us anymore in this early hunt, at least this year sierra pacific did, i feel like im wasting my time hunting there. Or maybe anyone know why weyerhauser wont open gate for muzzleloader but will for modern rifle.? and let them camp? any thoughts....?

I have been driving around the last few days with no closed gates.  4x4 bull in the back of a rig today, gut pile in some timber, six travel trailers parked with campers.  I was surprised to see that many people.  Rumor had it opening weekend everyone was chasing elk, since then the elk have hunkered down.  I am not sure what part of the unit you hunt,  but we have not had an access issue.

Saw more people opening weekend this year than any year before. Wheyerhouser is leaving there gates closed for liability issues. If you drive around a corner into a washout that they know is there but are not going to fix it is there fault...

i hunt the boisfort side most of the time, but it was a zoo, i put lots of  miles on my legs but didnt see anything but deer. I just dont understand why weyerhauser wont open boisfort/pe ell areas for us and will for the modern guys. Ohh well looking forward to the late hunt, its always more productive for me. congrats medic6 good to hear some people got meat in the truck.

It sounds like they are doing pretty well so far in Ryderwood area.  The sierra security guy that hauls the elk out of their walk in area  hauled 7 over the weekend.  I know a few other folks that have gotten bulls out in that unit as well.  Sounds like it has been a little foggy in the mornings but so far it has been pretty good hunting.  No monsters just the typical Ryderwood raghorns.  Those gated roads are still open to bikes or walk in, although I do not think that Weyco will help you if you get one down way back in like Sierra will.

I was out checking areas  for next year bow season and pressure was light on tuesday. The gates were wide open in area closest to home.I heard they killed some nice buls opening weekend.I was told of a big 7x7,and two dandy, big bull-5's.I saw few if any out of there rigs and none with calls hanging around their necks! They are still calling well in some areas. My uncle was staying at the motel in Packwood this morning and the bulls were screaming up there, actually woke them up,with mutliple bulls going nuts!!
