more fly tying materials.....

You guys maybe sick of seeing weird bird photos, but here the feathers are before they hit the fly. This guys feathers are probably most notobly used as tailfeathers in a royal coachman.
his crest in MANY atlantic salmon and steelhead flies. My favorite is the fartn-phool

Those are some neat looking birds. Do you actually tie flies and use their feathers?

I do. That was probably the spark for getting me interested in doing this, or at least knowing about all sorts of pheasants.

Thats cool, I bet you get some satisfaction after catching a fish from fly's you tied from your own birds you raise and get feathers from.

Thanks...the Royal Wulff is one of the best flies for Cutthroat. They just can't resist it and it really doesn't look like any bug.

Are these your birds or just pics of the birds in general?

Another pattern that uses the black tipped golden pheasant feathers is the General Practitioner! Love that fly.

Sorry Leanne, I hadn't visited this topic for awhile and didn't realize you asked a question. No I don't. At least not usually. On occasion one of my breeders dies, but usually have aspirations of mounting them. I cleaned out my freezer a month or so back and sold some to another guy who wanted mounts. ITs funny, I can sell an adult Junglefowl for $150 live and he is worth $350 dead.
A couple of my birds should keep their heads hung low.

check these out Leanne. It was another thread on here, but some great tails off of that amherst.
I raised hybrids for a bit, as tyers like the combo of the red golden and amherst, but bird breeders tend to frown on that. Colorful critters.

Just found this thread. Cool stuff. I used to tie a lot of exotics, and still have some of the feathers, but the last few years I mostly stick with the tried and true patters. Love the pics though...
