we have always done well with fawn distress. if you are in a area that has a high elk population you can do very good with a calf elk call.

For bear now I almost always use either Bearmanric's or Rainshadow's hand calls.  Both make outstanding sounding predator calls and they both tune them nice and raspy for me.

yep for sure! one of the local guy has called cougars with a goat distress sound. you never know i also like the raspy calls over high pitch for bears and yotes. cats on the other hand seem to like the high pitched bird sounds. the medow lark is a killer ;)

In a hour when Lee get's home he is going to teach me on the huge turret lathe how to start the toneboards. These are my new ones. Going to be sweet. I'm nervous but will be great to know how to. I've milled all my toneboards so far. These new Toneboard's will make Great bear call's. I'll know more on the double reed tone board soon. Byron south is checking them out for Mojo outdoor's. We only have a few left. Befor I left I got a 100 double Reed 1/2 rubber holder's. Will be working on double reed closed reed beer call's and coaxer's for bobcat. Rick

Rick, my goto bear call is an older version of the Sceery Coarse Predator like shown in the image below.  Having the reed cut the way it is allows for a lot of flexibility and variety of sounds.  I would highly encourage that type of reed rather than a more traditional seperate slender reeds which are more helpful for producing howls or high pitched multiple animal distress calls.

Just a suggestion, it is a double barrel call and as such is fairly large.  I had to grind down the mouth piece as thin as possible because it would cause my jaw to get fatigued after calling for a while.  Just something to be aware of since I can't judge the size of your prototype.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

Johnny stewart predator call works good, do not use the ones for bears, they do not make ANY vocalizations that even remotely sound like a bear.
