Big Muley( UPDATE)-BUCK DOWN (Pics Added)
« on: October 06, 2010, 07:54:37 PM »
OK, really not an important thread here, but one with lots of pics of one deer.  Here is whats goin down, Hunter-4-Life's wife drew Idahos unit 14 muley tag for this weekend  :IBCOOL:, so like the good husband that he is, we have gone on two scouting trips to piece of property that he obtained permission for that hasn't been hunted in over 10 years.  Each trip we have seen a lot of nice bucks, but one in particular has caught our eye, and we have seen him on both trips down there.  His wife has decided that this is the buck she will shoot, when she sees him, or if she sees a bigger one first.

Now for your help, please for goodness sake, help settle the dispute that he and I are having over this deer.  There seems to be some debate as to an estimated score on this deer, more importantly regarding the spread this deer has.  We also have some debate as to his actual age.  We will not tell you what we think.  So please, you muley experts out there, tell us what you estimate his:

1.  Antler width
2.  Total Gross Score
3.  Age
4.  (for kicks) Dressed Weight.

Enjoy the pics, and if you know of any bigger deer in this unit, please feel free to share that info also.   :chuckle:

That's a great buck for sure I think. I am not a good scorer really but he may be 26 or 27 wide, not real tall and lacking mass. score wise I don't think he would be very high, but like I said he's great I'd take him for sure. He does not look to old either maybe 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 still young but very nice. Who knows when you get there you just may find a bigger one that him.   Good luck hope to see the pics soon! ;)

I suck at this for the most part but here's my guess. We'll let the muley junkies chime in. I think he's 28" wide. He's got weak fronts and not real strong backs but he does have long beams and width so I'm gonna say 168ish. I think he's probably 4-5 years old which  I would not say is very young. As far as weight goes, I have no clue. I'm really curious to hear what the guys that really know this stuff have to say.

He looks like a good buck no matter what the score is.

Have a good time out there, hope you don't just focus on inches (not a flame at you).

Thats a good point. I would shoot that buck without even thinking about it with my late permit this year.

Not a problem.  She is pretty dead set on taking this buck.  She believes, and I agree, that there is something special about finding a buck months in advance, seeing him on numurous occasions, and having the opportunity to harvest that buck.  To me it shows the respect and admiration she has for this majestic beautiful animal.  We just want to see who is closer to being right.   :chuckle:

On a side note, has anyone noticed how much bigger he looks in pick 1596 than the other buck.  Granted, its a much younger buck, but still...

That little 4x4 has a lot of potential about 3 years from now.
