My sons first animal
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:19:50 PM »
My oldest son has been hunting along side me since he was four. This past summer he passed hunter safety and my father handed down my Grandfathers Savage .308 to him. Pretty big deal for him. We loaded up the rifles today to see if we could find a bear. We made it in the woods a mile and a bobcat crossed in front of us. We began pursuit and came across a small creek. I noticed a couple of blowdowns spanning across and had him take the lead. I told him to watch the logs as that was the cats only escape. I had no sooner told him this and a silver blur took off across the logs. He pulled up on it and let the lead fly. He made a good shot but I sure wish we had his .22 instead of the .308 . He has already cleared a spot on his wall for the rug. He has also informed me to clear a couple of spots in the family room for his upcoming deer and elk.

Thanks everyone, it was so funny watching him tell his hunting story to his little brothers. A side note, that is him in my profile pic when he was four. He was packin a custom red rider back then.

Very nice!  I know people that have hunted a lifetime and have never taken a bobcat.

Very well done!!  My first rifle was a Savage 99 in 308.  I saved all summer bucking hay and changing sprinkler pipes for that rifle, and then I could only afford half of it.  I loved that gun, wish I still had it.  A hand me down from Grandpa would be even better!  Way to go!
Nothing witty here.... move along.
