As the holder of a "quality" Archery Deer Permit, I will be making a few scouting trips into area this month.
I was just wondering if anybody was planning on hunting it General season MF,
maybe I could stop by your camp for a cup of coffee and compare notes.
My permit is for Nov. 1st-24th, so I could keep an eye out for late buck (season overlap) and any nice bucks I cannot get close to.......

What part of the unit have you been looking at?  The southern part toward the prison or further north?

I was thinking of coming in through Wynoochee and camping up near the lake (Wynoochee), as That is where I am most familiar with unit,
 My family has a cabin on Benson Lake in unit 633, I thought about staying there and hunting up near Cushman, but I most likely wont be using it as I figured to keep an eye out for Elk to hunt after my permit expires.
So I will (most likely) be near Wynoochee , but am not committed to any spot. (yet)

Where are all the crowds ?

Most of the crowds are in the southern foothills and down into the flats in the timber co. lands. Not as many people push past the gates in the national forest land. I think there are more deer in the timber co lands but more people hunting them as well. With your permit you shouldnt have to worry about this as I think there are only 9 others holding a permit to hunt the time you hunt.
The whol;e unit holds big BT's and it should be a great opp at a nice buck with your trad bow hunting during the rut. The first 10 days of Nov will be your best shot in there. One year  ( i think 3 yrs ago) I hunted the modern season with archery tackle up in the national forest and didnt see but only a couple other hunters.
When the snow flies it can get really good. A few years ago I was up around 2000 ft and got into a crazy snow storm that put down about 10 inches in only a few hours, then it started to thunder like crazy. There was about a three hour window in the weather and it was the best hunting I have ever seen, the deer were all of the sudden EVERYWHERE which goes to show how many deer are actually in the woods that I never see. I was able to put my tag on a doe that day...I think it was first week in December. By late archery most of the rutting activity is over. I've talked to a lot of locals who hunt the area and not suprisingly they say Halloween is the best day, most of them just sit and watch the edge of cuts and are able to get bucks with modern tackle.
I think you should have a good hunt, its a good tag to have.

Canyon River hold some monster blacktails but you have to bust the brush and then sit and wait for them to come to you.

was gonna be my first option to hunt......its good to here that there are some biggins there......gonna head out there tomarrow to scout it out

  looked around for 2 days and only saw a couple of Blue Grouse guess i am gonna have to look around elsewhere....

Should have tried to talk to someone who hunts.. 
I have a good spot located, only a few does, but after seeing a couple fresh rubs, I think I might get onto something.

hunted around matlock on the skok side monday tuesday and friday last week. seen some nice deer, missed a 3x4 monday and seen a 130" 4x5 that would stay still. but are starting to rut there, seen a couple 2pts with thier noses to the ground chasing does. and there were quite a few rubs friday that were there monday or tuesday

my buddie lives over there, archery hunter. and just drives around the hills during modern firearm season hunting grouse. he has been seeing alot of nice bucks this year on the skok side.

That is a great tag to have. I hunt the area often and love the fact that nobody will hike in past a gate. Talking about the Skok side, I would look in the 24** roads above the Canal. Find a good rub line and hit it hard.
