How does taking Video vs. still pictures affect battery life?
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:36:17 AM »
I have been noticing quite a few trail cam videos on here and they are really cool.  I have a Moultrie D40 and have been wanting to try out the video setting, but I don't get to check my camera but once every week or two.  I don't want to get 3 days worth of video and have dead batteries for the rest of the time.  What kind of battery life are you guys seeing in video mode versus still picture mode?

I think the battery life stays the same.  Your memory card fills up faster.

Right the card fills up faster but unless you are in a high activity area you wont notice. Like I said mine is an olde model. Takes a 6 volt that last about two weeks if there are not many pics

It does take more battery power.  Especially at night with the IR panel glowing.  I'm set for 20 second video with a Bushnell trophy cam.
