Convincing your girlfriend or wife?
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:35:50 PM »
Alright so it's safe to say that most of us on this site are obsessed with guns (probably an understatement). What my question is though, is what kind of "fibs" or "tales" have u had to fabricate in order to convince your significant other that you must own a certain gun? Last year i told my girlfriend that the only reason i was "blowing" $1800 on a Beneli shotgun was because the company was goin out of business and that the gun would be worth a "fortune" in years to come. Well that might not be so true, but i got the gun and she quit hasslin me.

Just buy it and don't tell her.

I have said it a thousand times....just go to the closet and start counting shoes....or lifting some makeup off the dresser and ask: "How much does this stuff cost?"

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to "fib", make up a "tale", fabricate or convince (Lie) to her then you need to reevaluate your relationship son, grow a pair and buy what you want, when you want and why you want, so long as the money spent is not being diverted from the everyday things all families/couples need.
If you start lying that will just come out bad in the end.

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I've never had to lie or convince or anything else.  If the money is there for the purchase and was intended for said purchase, well I buy.  The last gun I wanted I didn't have to buy, it was given to me.  Ruger #1 25-06  :)

Earlier this year I got laid off from my job of 5 years and by the end of the week my wife had managed to convince me that I should go and buy a Ruger SP101 .357.  Man I love my wife!!!! :kneel:

I don't ask how much her shoes or her other stuff cost and she wont ask how much a gun, rifle or bow cost.  That was a signed agreement at marriage ;)

Lying to her doesn't make sense....   It's just one more lie to keep track of.

The key is to marry someone you're compatible with, otherwise you get to spend the next XX years lying and arguing about it.

I don't do this (Lie) with everything on a daily basis or anything like that. It was this and one other time that i made up B.S. to get what i wanted and as a matter of fact she's watching me type this as i speak  :)   It wasn't my plan to make this an ethics or morals topic  :bdid:

next time you go out shooting just come home with it and put it in the safe like its nothing special, by the time she notices it, if she does, you can tell her you have had it for a long time.

You guys have seen a few of my posts. I've been on a .22 pistol kick for the last couple of years. I either just save up to buy what I want or I tell the wife the name and model number of what I want and she "surprises" me with it. I have a great wife. ;)

Keep track of the hair/nails/facials, and cosmetics, shampoos, extra copies of purses, shoes, boots, etc. etc. etc. etc. If she grants you matching fun money, you're going to have a pretty well stocked safe! We don't even realize until we start keeping track, but the girls can spend some MONEY!!!

One summer my dad got a new Mossberg and was looking it over, when my mom asks that's not new is it?  Dad says no had it for years.  Things got a little tense when mom opened the woodstove and found that new cardboard box waiting for colder months :bash:.

I don't ask, just buy a gun if I want one.
I have a gun/hunting fund in the drawer of my reloading bench, it's my money to buy what ever I want. When I sell a gun or other hunting gear, the money gets put in the drawer.
I've never told my wife about my gun fund but she's never asked where I got the money for a gun so she knows, as long as I'm not dipping into the bill money she don't care. 100's of guns and scopes have come through here, I don't hide it, don't have to.
Cabelas layaway is a good way to buy a gun a little at a time with extra funds as they become available, without dipping into the "family" bank account.
I dont really know crap about women but I think that as long as the bills are getting paid most women wont mind their boyfreind/husband buying what he wants.

If she's not your wife then what difference does it make?  :dunno:  Call me old fashioned but until you're married you can spend your money how you want. If I were her brother, however, I would be advising her to consider your financial responsibility if you feel you need to lie in order to buy wants which aren't necessities.

That being said, its nice to have fun things. And if it wont break the bank and in line with what my WIFE spends or agrees to let me spend, I am all about counting shoes in the closet, ala ICEMAN.

Also keep track of lattes, lunches out with the girls, nick knacks for the house, etc.  When I first got married I was getting ready to sell a rifle for a pretty penny and she immediately started thinking of a piece of furnature.  I had to make it clear that any and all funds made by selling or trading a gun are to go 100% back into another gun or hunting equipment, NO EXCEPTIONS!

My wife is always pushing me to buy more stuff for hunting, she says that I deserve it. Maybe it is because I have never said no to anything that she has wanted OR maybe she just wants me out of the house. :)

Married and not too well off, but I never lie.  Once I did end up buying one for her, I had forgot to switch my address on DL and gave her my Christmas cash to buy it under her name, so it is hers.  Last time I ended up buying her a $500 diamond ring that she wanted with the understanding that this season or next I could go out a get a $1000 rifle.  She really doesn't go too shoe crazy so I have to try and be a little fair.

I bought my wife a Beretta O/U 12ga for her Birthday or Christmas or our Anniversary.........I can't remember which one now.  I have shot it more than she has.  Now I'm thinking of getting "her" a new 7mm-08 or .308 because I she needs a lighter weight rifle.

Could not have said it any better!!!!

Only thing I woory about when looking for a new bow, gun or reel is how much it is going to cost me. Because without a doubt in my mind I will be buying two of them.

Find someone that is compatible with what you do and never take away from the daily expenses.  That gun is a want not a need.

For our first married Christmas, 10 months ago, I decided to invest some of my hunting fund into our relationship and bought my wife a Diamond Razor's Edge Bow with winner's choice string, her own bow case, every thing pink, fletching and all, etc. I told her that I was trying to find ways to spend more time with her and include her in what I love to do. ...after all I didn't want her to be a "hunter's widow" like some of her other friends complain about being.

Well, due to this new development, I HAD to buy a nice blind for us to hunt out of together ;) . When she's gotten used to the whole thing, I'll have to buy a couple of tree stands we can use "together". Oh, and suddenly she can see how having a couple of trail cameras could be really handy. I just had to show her the joy of the sport. I am very proud of my wife, this spring she completed hunter's safety and this fall has been out hunting with me for the first time, well with her own tag.

On our anniversary, she surprised me with an S&W .38 Special that had only been shot around 6 times. She was debating between that and another .44magnum, but considered that having a .38 might be good for her to have "for defense purposes." (Now who's turned the table?)

Now she's decided that the gun for anniversary gift should be an annual tradition and I couldn't agree more. I mean how could I lose, it started with buying her a "diamond"  ;)
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them" Romans 8:28~
