Convincing your girlfriend or wife?
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:35:50 PM »
Alright so it's safe to say that most of us on this site are obsessed with guns (probably an understatement). What my question is though, is what kind of "fibs" or "tales" have u had to fabricate in order to convince your significant other that you must own a certain gun? Last year i told my girlfriend that the only reason i was "blowing" $1800 on a Beneli shotgun was because the company was goin out of business and that the gun would be worth a "fortune" in years to come. Well that might not be so true, but i got the gun and she quit hasslin me.

Just buy it and don't tell her.
I would rather be a conservative nut job, than a liberal with no nuts, and no job!

I have said it a thousand times....just go to the closet and start counting shoes....or lifting some makeup off the dresser and ask: "How much does this stuff cost?"

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to "fib", make up a "tale", fabricate or convince (Lie) to her then you need to reevaluate your relationship son, grow a pair and buy what you want, when you want and why you want, so long as the money spent is not being diverted from the everyday things all families/couples need.
If you start lying that will just come out bad in the end.
Tell the truth, you will have less to remember.... :twocents:

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I've never had to lie or convince or anything else.  If the money is there for the purchase and was intended for said purchase, well I buy.  The last gun I wanted I didn't have to buy, it was given to me.  Ruger #1 25-06  :)

Earlier this year I got laid off from my job of 5 years and by the end of the week my wife had managed to convince me that I should go and buy a Ruger SP101 .357.  Man I love my wife!!!! :kneel:
"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
- Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)

I don't ask how much her shoes or her other stuff cost and she wont ask how much a gun, rifle or bow cost.  That was a signed agreement at marriage ;)

Lying to her doesn't make sense....   It's just one more lie to keep track of.

The key is to marry someone you're compatible with, otherwise you get to spend the next XX years lying and arguing about it.

(From a guy who's tried the lying route and the truth telling route.....)

I don't do this (Lie) with everything on a daily basis or anything like that. It was this and one other time that i made up B.S. to get what i wanted and as a matter of fact she's watching me type this as i speak  :)   It wasn't my plan to make this an ethics or morals topic  :bdid:

next time you go out shooting just come home with it and put it in the safe like its nothing special, by the time she notices it, if she does, you can tell her you have had it for a long time.
