I am in the market for some waders for hunting and was looking for some veterans input.
For my fishing, I use Simms G3 breathable waders, so I had thought about going breathable for duck/goose hunting. With the colder weather, I was suggested to get some 5mm Neoprene with a minimum of 1000-1200 thinsulate boots.
I remember many years ago with my 1st pair of Hodgman brown neos for fishing, I used to sweat horribly in those, and it seemed inevitable at some point, the neoprene would leak. Now, with my breathables, on cold days, I just go with polypropylene, fleece pants and then my waders and I am "usually" warm enough. However, while fishing, I am usually walking a bit, so I wonder if breathables will still keep me warm enough while sitting in a duckblind?
All the guys I hunt with have the neos with the warm boots and the next day, their gear is still damp from the condensation. Me, just getting into bird hunting, I am trying to figure out what direction to go...
All I know, I hate getting cold and I get cold too darned easy....
You guys have any pointers?
