so i thought this was interesting
« on: October 17, 2010, 12:27:17 PM »
so the other day imoved my rest over and did minor adjustments. got it all sighted in again wth the broad heads. was hitting the black dots on my block 4x4 out to 45yrds.. well after that i turn the target to the deer side view imagineing it was the real thing. well when i let the arrow fly to where i want to hit it at forthe lung area, all of a sudden i was high even though i was hitting the black dots... i adjusted it now it is hitting where i want it too.. any thoughts or opinions on what was going on?

Just an idea, but not centering the sight frame in the peep the same every shot will do this.  Basically it's a change in anchor point.  Probably concentrated harder on form at the dots and tried to peek to see how good of a shot you're going to make on a deer.

Sight frame or rest was loose when you laid your bow down to turn target around.  Bumped it on a rock when you set it down.

I'm thinking like Todd that it is a form thing. I have shot awesome for days & then hitting same funny spot off for the morning all of a sudden. I've come back later & shooting awesome again. I've learned not to chase the shooting differences and now I work through them. I have to shoot the same off now for days before I change / check my bow. Mike

so what should i do if it is a form thing? re sight it in for the dots then practice on the deer side? or just leave it way it is and practice?

Only hunt on days that you are hitting where you want.

Otherwise, try shooting at different times of the day.  Different levels of coffee, food, and beer in your system all change the way you're shooting for the day.  You'll find a happy medium in there where you feel good about your setup.  Once you get that feeling back, then the problems disappear on their own.

It may be in your grip also. I get up down variations sometimes if my grip isn't right.

One of the things I find most interesting about archery is how important consistency is. You have to hold your bow the same way (hopefully parrallel to the ground) and have the same anchor point in order for you point of aim to be the same every time. Follow through is important (basically relaxing while holding your form and letting the bow do it's thing through the shot). I haven't shopped releases in a while, but some releases used to be bad for torquing the string which can throw your shot off in weird ways.

I agree with the others who said unless you banged your bow on something or you haven't put thread loc on your fasteners, both of which could cause something to be loose or change position (and thus point of aim) it's form. 8)

It most likely is just something you are doing during the shot.  Maybe grabbing the bow when you shoot.  I have this problem sometimes when I shoot with an open hand.  It is hard to say exactly what the problem is because there is so many just tiny things it could be.  I would make sure everything on your bow is tight and keep practicing
