Ducks or Bucks?
« on: October 12, 2010, 08:48:24 PM »
Saturday morning, every year I'm usually out chasing blacktails around every year, but find myself kicking myself thinking I shoulda gone duck hunting instead. The weather forecast looks like pretty calm clear weather for the opener, which in my experience doesn't bring much success for either. Just curious how everyone else has done on weather like this during the opening few weeks when the birds aren't too spooky.

Where I used to hunt, there were a lot of swamp bucks as we called them.  We would always duck hunt the morning than push the bottoms for blacktails.  I would usually always get my buck with my shotgun every season while duck hunting.  Best of both worlds.  I just know when I have deer hunted on openning duck all I could think about was duck hunting.

I hear ya there on thinkin about duck hunting. Last year we had that really nasty day on opening day and I went out deer hunting since I figured it'd be good deer hunting as well, saw 4 does all morning and as i walked the 4 miles out of the walk-in I was in I kicked myself for not going duck hunting. :bash:

I'm buck hunting, but this will be my last year of it. Same as you, I am tired of missing opening day ducks.

I will switch to either bow or muzzie next year.

I grew up hunting deer and didn't get into duck hunting until a few years ago. I always go deer hunting on opening day. Season is a lot longer for ducks. My dad on the other hand never missed an deer season opener in 15 years and now that he has gotten a lab he has decided to go after birds instead.

Not duck hunting till I have my deer, or season is over

If I had a good spot to go shoot a deer opening weekend I might consider it. But I don't spend enough time scouting to hunt deer around yakima, so I'm going duck hunting. I am hinkin about doing the late WT hunt this year though.
