Most unusal animal you have caught
« on: October 12, 2010, 08:10:23 AM »
My first year in wyoming I caught a bobcat and have never in my life ever seen one that looks like this. It was a 30# tom and was sold to a museum in wisconson.

maybe a cross? 30lbs is pretty big for a crossed cat. i have heard of male bobcats breeding house cats. i also know they like to eat them :chuckle:

Wow way cool. I still remember my unusual catch. I caught a Nutria in a beaver set when I was about 10 years old, about the time The Swamp Thing movie came out. I was trapping behind a pulp mill and I thought I caught a swamp monster. My grandpa thought my eyes were going to pop outta my head. I told him that it had beaver teeth and a rat tail with long sharp claws. He thought it was pretty funny.

I caught a Pigeon once in a leg hold trap when I was a kid, that was WAY before I knew anything about covering your traps.

I have taken a couple strange ones but no pictures. Trapped for a long time before I ever owned a camera.
Caught a beaver once that had a big hole ripped in it's abdomen, clear through to it's internal organs.  It had healed a lot but there was still a hole in its abdomen you could put your finger through to its guts. Beaver are tough and heal from some tremendous wounds but that was something. He was in poor shape but healing and I think he would have pulled through eventually. Only thing I could think that could have did it was a cat.
Caught another beaver with a black spot over about two thirds of his body. Black like tar against the usual brown. Another beaver that was quite obviously blind.
Blond raccoon, I think I have a picture of that one somewhere. Have to look for it.

I caught a salmon in a 330 a few years ago. It was a good sized fish, but pretty dark and getting ready to spawn. I smoked it and thought it tasted ok at the time.

Maybe it has the same lines as Dmans bobcat he posted awhile back? :chuckle: :chuckle:
