First Elk

Just wanted to share pics of my success. Been at it for several years now and finally got one. Took me awhile to post ect. as this was during early archery elk season. I was solo hunting and without the help of some hunters passing by it would have been a much longer day.  But I got some help from friendly folks and everything worked out. Thanks to you guys if you are on here at all! I have hunted Rimrock for elk for 6 years and finally did it!  It has been a long time coming.

Thanks!  I watched her come through a clearing and then put a short stalk on. Got within 60yrds, ranged her, shot, and she went about 40 yrds and dropped.  She got back up walked over to a tree leaned up against it and piled up around the tree. I had to make a makeshift rope pulley to get her off the tree and get her turned around so I could field dress her.  Once I had quartered her and carried the first quarter back to the truck I flagged down another hunter who helped me with the other quarters. Honestly, as my first elk I had no idea how much more work it was than a deer, but perhaps that is to be expected. Two hours in and I was beginning to question my sanity until the first guy came by. Some other folks stopped by and we all carried the body back to their camp where we hung her up and skinned her out.  Took her down to Naches for processing that morning!  One thing to note is that I am truly grateful to the other hunters who assisted me.  I cant wait for the opportunity to pay it forward!  That is one thing I have always noticed about folks is that they are typically always willing to help!

Everything has been delicious, but I really enjoy the grind for its flavor and versatility.  The butcher made fantastic peperoni and summer sausage as well!

Nice work, I had the same thing happen with my hunt last year and was saved by the calvary.  I'm glad to see us bowhunters taking care of each other.  Did you share the wealth with them too ?  It's an amazing amount of work isn't it ?
