Closed mouth bear rug??
« on: October 18, 2010, 01:41:30 PM »
Anybody ever had a bear rug done with a closed mouth instead of open?  Anyone have any pics of it?  Got a bear this weekend so I'm just thinking about how I want it.  Thanks.  Also, any taxi recomendations in snoho or skagit county?

I have a closed mouth shoulder mount and a closed mouth rug done.  I also have one of each with the mouths open and I really like the closed mouth mounts better.  I'll post a couple of photos tonight.

I have seen both done. I think as for a shoulder mount a closed mouth is very clean and really shows the bear off. I have seen a couple done like that on the rugs and although it looked good I think it took away from the rug.

I do not know any taxidermists in that area to send you to.

Thanks

Viszla,

I think Closed Mouth Rugs look realy nice.  You can even get them where they are panting.  Those look nice to.  They are not full open mouth agresive.  Just slightly open.  I have photos in my catologs of both.

Thanks guys (and gal).  Although the open mouth looks mean, I think I'm leaning towards the closed mouth.  I like the more natural look.  Machias, looking forward to your pics.  Thanks again, all.

Kain,
Your bear looks really nice the way it's trimmed of the excess skin from the belly. My taxidermist didn't do that.

My bears both have open mouth. I think I like the closed mouth better.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Thats not my bear those are just pics I found on the internet.  Sorry for the confusion.  I just posted them so we could see some examples of close mouth mounts.

I did one of my bears closed mouth a few years ago.  I like all of the black bears done closed mouth.  I just think it looks better that way. Just my opinion, but I have never seen a bear in the woods with a big snarled open mouth. Of course I have never been attacked by one either (knock on wood) :)

These aren't very good photos, but hopefully you can get an idea.  The closed mouth red Cinnamon looks much better than the photos shows.  I threw in the two shoulder mounts as well.

Thanks Machias.  I think I am going to do a closed mouth.  I like the more natural look of it and it is also something a little different.  I wish I had the money to mount the whole thing.  It would look pretty cool laying up on the plant shelf.
