Anyone know if these are a gimmick or what? I'm thinking about trying one.

they work slick I set one up using my elk target . you need to setr them up on something the size you'll be shooting to get the most out of it.

What if you hunt deer and elk at the same time ?  They are both legal in most archery units at the same time .   :dunno:  suck to have it set up for elk and have a deer come along. Mike

if you have it set for elk , you need to shot one pin higher for deer . ussaully deer give you more time to range them , remember this thing is a quick reference for the times when you dont have time for lazer ranging and it's only twenty bucks , good value i feel.

Another thought is if you are shooting from a tree stand or shooting down hill wouldn't the animal be thinner ?  I think I'm still getting out my range finder. Mike

Hell I'd be willing to order one for mikexray o try out I guess some people are a glass half empty type . Sure this thing isn't a end all range finder and It has flaws due to the animal size . Like any archery sighting devise You need to PRACTICE with it to benifit from it . I have a few bows and have it on one of them and a couple buddies of mine have them aswell . If this little twenty doller fiber pin gets me time for one shot that I wouldn't have got and it has , then its worth it . I've killed twenty four elk with a bow in sixteen years , but I guess experiance dosn't count for much. I see a ton of armchair quarter backs on forums that read a ton and know a ton and never apply it to real life . Mike if you don't fall into that group  I'll owe you an appology , but this seems to be a pattern on this sight. Now I'll try to play nice , just had to vent C.

Watch out Tradman , coachcw is about to attack your ass !!!!!!!!   Hurry say something positive, say something positive .

Actually I had been thinking of trying one out after seeing commercials on TV & looking at it on here . After thinking it over I came up with the concerns I voiced. I don't think it would work for me. To much messing around at the shot ( if I'm set up for elk which damn pin do I shoot for deer ? ). Glad it works for some. Mike
