Teanaway in Jeopardy from Development
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:08:43 AM »
Thought anyone in the community that hunts or camps in the Teanaway may be interested in the mailer I got to notify of a meeting that is this weekend.  Bummer that it is during the deer season, but good info to have if you want to preserve hunting rights in the American Forest Land Company held area it appears at first glance.

I'll attach the Friends of the Teanaway mailer below and here is a link to a newspaper article on the development and Kittitas Counties current effort or lack there of to plan for future growth.

I would really hate to see that development happen. You would think with this economy it wouldn't be an issue. Seems this would be a good time for some conservation organization to buy up all that land to prevent any future development in the Teanaway valley.   :dunno:

Just the beginning to the Californication of the 509 if you ask me.

I'm not as up on this as I should be probably, but hasn't this been on the table for quite a while now?

Yes, but in back channels as I understand it.  Now this is building a qroup to advocate for it remaining timber and recreation use as opposed to residential type development.

This is one of my favorite areas in the state. I would hope there was some conservation group out there that would purchase the land then give it to the USFS since they own land furher up the valley. Conservation groups are doing a lot of land purchases followed by donations these days since most government agencies don't have the $ to outright buy the land themselves.

Maybe Defenders of Wildlife could purchase it. :dunno:  Hell maybe DOW and RMEF could get together and purchase the land.

Nobody is going to be developing anything up there currently with a well moratorium that is about to become permanent!! I may have to go to that meeting because I am still extremely steamed about Suncadia and Saphire Skies. I wish I would have been old enough to make sure that those two developments never happened!!

Suncadia has been selling excess water rights  they acquired and I am not sure if AFLC has any but nothing is stopping them from buying some up to have water they would need to develop home sites.

Also, no telling what commissioners would allow to gain more tax payers on land that pays little tax currently.

I was wondering if the water moratorium was still in effect. Hopefully it stays that way. They already allowed too much development in upper Kittitas County as it is.

Wait until you see the solar panel installation that they are going to build Cle Elm Ridge.

That seems to have some hiccups but mostly is moving forward.
