Got any ideas??
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:18:05 PM »
A friend and I were out deer hunting on private property (with written permission) this morning. Their property has LOTS of THICK blackberry bushes on it, we came accross an obvious black bear tunnel through the blackberries. 30 seconds after both of us decided it was a blackbear tunnel, we got clacked at by the blackbear from within the bushes, two different times. There are very few blackbear in the area and the bear was probably only 40 yards from our friends house. Despite trying, we could not get eyes on the bear.

Since neither of us were to crazy about the idea of crawling down the tunnel after him, we could not think of how to get him out to get a clear ID and shot off. Since we were deer hunting we didn't have any predator calls with us to try either.

Does anyone have any ideas how to roust him out to get a shot off?? What would be the best time of day to attempt it (morning/evening), etc?? Any other ideas??

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Wait him out. Any try at 'rousting' him would just set him into mach 5 with very little chance at a shot.
If it was not aware you were there you could try sucking/kissing the back of your hand or blowing on a blade of grass.  :dunno:

Plus...I always go deer hunting with a predator call...slow times for deer mean its calling time! ;)

Good luck...I would try to wait him out as well.

Another question, do you guys think that is his home, or just one of many places he hangs out? The tunnel looked pretty well beaten.

You could try trail sitting if it is a trail that it is currently using to access a local food source.
