Recall Pens
« on: October 25, 2010, 02:38:47 PM »
Anyone here use a quail recall pen?  Any particular designs you like/dislike?  Did you build your own?  Mind sharing some photos?  How do you use yours?

I'm thinking with the very spotty quail I'm finding I want to put more birds consistently out for my dog and everything I read says avoid planted birds like the plague unless you know what your doing and that quail in a recall pen is the best way to go.  So any advice on where you buy your quail, how you raise them or keep them so they are strong fliers and how do you like to transport/recall them to different training areas.  I'm thinking if I had about 20-30 quail and took them out in their recall pen, then I would be able to get Sam on birds consistently and I could take them and him to different areas to expose him to as many different hunting areas as possible.  We have been out 12 times in the past couple of weeks and finally ran into one small covey that flushed onto leased hunting grounds.  We did manage to get his first pointed quail out of that bunch when two flew over to state land, but the rest of the covey went onto the posted property.
