i guide deer and elk in montana in unit 250 , which includes the bitteroot mts along warm springs creek... since the fires of 2000,, elk numbers have jumped up dramatically,, but also wolf numbers...i do think they make the elk more wary, and they do bugle less,, but guiding there for three years,, and spending a huge amount of time in the backcountry,,, i feel that wolves are not a terrible problem ... yet.... maybe.....when i first started,, in the unlikely event you did see a wolf,, it was from afar... this year, i had three follow a client and i for a 1/4 mile... not normal wolf behavior.. there are tons of wolves,, but hunting them would be fairly tuff.... much like hunting cats without hounds,, mostly luck... i would apply,,, but i doubt i would make the drive just to hunt them... could use the point tho..
