Good post Shootmore. I'm strongly against China made products but as you said, what store does not sell Chinese made products? Why hold that against Wal Mart but none of the other stores that do the exact same thing? As you said, it's because they are the most successful. Heck they should be commended for that! The employees don't get paid enough or don't get a good health care plan? If that is true, then why are so many people working there? If the employees are not satisfied with the pay/benefits, they are free to find a job elsewhere.

Yes it is, too bad it was almost three years ago. Course with this latest news of the Remington trigger problems, maybe we'll see the prices dropping even more than that.

If they had lefties, I'd buy a truckload just for the actions.  I'm not sure what a 700 righty action costs, but I'm guessing more than $300.00.  If you ever had a plan to have a custom rifle built on a 700 action, RUN to Wally World and get-cha-some!

I never understood those who piss and moan about Walmart.  The only thing I don't like about them are the freakin' crowds!

It's not the crowds of people that bother me, it's the fact the have 50 checkout lanes and only 4 open when I go.

...unless you realize that those people are more or less driven to working places like that, because walmart drove all the competition(that probably offered health benefits or good pay) out of an area.

out in this area at least, walmart doesn't have better prices on anything that you can buy at any other local store.  the problem is that they've driven out all the niche retailers(think sporting goods) so that they're the only option on the coast.

Really? Do most retailers pay that much more than Wal Mart and provide health insurance for their employees? (Serious question, I honestly do not know)

I think most of you are missing my point. Wal-mart is not bad because they are so big. I love the idea that a company can grow that large. The problem I have is they pay minimum wage (not a huge issue either) and ENCOURAGE THEIR WORKERS TO GO APPLY FOR STATE ASSISTANCE in the form of food stamps and medical insurance. So when you factor that in are you really saving money? as big and profitable as they are would it really hurt to bump the wages up enough so people who work there could afford to live? I mean if you are making Billions per year is going to hurt if you have a couple million less and happier employees?

But paying low wages is probably how they keep their prices down. If the state would do away with welfare then that wouldn't be an issue. Also, I'd like to see the state (and the feds) do away with the minimum wage.

lets see...they are a prime employer of those who are less desirable so over 50 walmart will hire you, no ged or high school diploma you also qualify.....neither of these are inherently bad but walmart uses this to their advantage and pays lower wages.  They got busted big time in Oregon for working employees just shy of the 32 hours a week so they didn't have to provide medical....work 31.5 and you dont qualify work 32 and you do so all employees shifts were managed so they only worked 31 hours a week.  Yes in many areas they do counsel their employees on how to get state assistance such as medical and food stamps.  Walmart has special pricing because they also have special contracts...so that panasonic (for instance) tv may look the same as the one at best buy but it isn't it was specifically made for walmart an my be a knock down version...this is the case with many of the products they carry, it also involves lots of noncompete agreements so that the manufacturer is tied and cannot offer a similar price break to other retailers.  I am not any sort of expert just years of retail experience and working behind the scenes....it helps to learn how these monopoly stores get their monopolies....

I call walmart the evil empire....most things wrong with this country started with all good intentions  :dunno: walmart was a good thing now its a place peddaling cheap chinese plastic and keeping its workers in need of government assitance..gosh almost sounds like a communist business strategy :dunno:

Sorry but the way I see it is if a person does not have a high school diploma or GED then they are lucky to get a job at all.  :twocents:
