snow goose reserve hunt
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:26:10 PM »
Well, here's the deal. I've been drawn for the reserved snow goose hunt on Saturday Nov, 13th unit 21. I've never hunted snow geese, and before I dump any money into dekes I wanted to try it at least once. If there is any one out there who would like to join me on this hunt that has the dekes and experience let me know. Otherwise, this draw will probably go to waste. Thanks, Brian

You have the Stanwood draw, so it may be hit or miss.  You never know.

H20 is right.  Each year I don't usually see them in that field until later in the season.  I would make sure to scout it to see if they are in that flight path the day or two before. Since there are so many white birds it will take some serious weather or serious amount of decoys to pull them in. So far we have gotten a few here and there, but it's taking about 500 plus rags to get a hand full of birds. Next we start switching over to better decoys on the entry area into the decoys.  If they are near field 21 the few days before then it's worth the hunt.  Ask a few people here and they might bring some decoys.  Bottom line though you need to be in the flight path.

If your not in the flight path between the bay and the field they want, it's a lot more of a challenge.  You better have a trained eagle in your arsonal or someone that kicks them up in every field they land in, so they are moving.
Terrellwa doesn't count as he has the field across the street.  The birds fly his field daily.   :chuckle:

Yes they fly some of the fields almost daily but it is great to see them come from the bay and pass up the reserve to come across the street to get Blasted.  You know you have a good spread and were able to trick them if they pass up the reserve.   :chuckle:

We finished our hunt the other day and were all taking pictures and such.  The Snows eventually landed on the reserve close to the road and one of those tree huggers was at the fence line with his camera and 4 foot lens taking pictures.  I almost went over to him and asked him if he would come take our picture since he looked like a professional.  Wonder what he would have said?
