Coues Buck shed of a lifetime
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:25:31 AM »
I just posted this in photography on a related thread but a find like this demands to be spammed/overposted!
http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,55757.msg737724/topicseen.html#new
As I said, its going to be an awesome year for Coues bucks in Arizona!

This may not be a state record but as far as finding a pair of antlers, you can't ask more than for them to be attached to a skull plate  :IBCOOL:  Must have been a cougar kill or a coyote dragging his dead old @$$.  It was less than 20 yards from the road and close to shooting spot/camp site!

Any ideas on what to do with it?  Keep the antlers bleached or stain them? mount to a plaque or keep it on the skull cap?

Not so much a shed but it looks like it was a nice coues.  Neat find - that thing was a whopper.

Keep on the skull cap, if you can.  Might want to check if it's legal in AZ to keep something attached to the skull like that (probably is but don't get yourself in trouble.)

OK not a shed  :( but found like it was one

I did check and if it were a fresh kill then it would be a bad idea to saw the head off and having it sticking out of the back of my truck. If I understand correct it needs to be obvious that it was killed by a predator or natural causes and not poached.  I believe NM doesn't want you taking sheds from the field... "leave them for EVERYONE to enjoy" lol.

I think it looks best the way it was found, only thing I would do is mount it to a nice plaque and display it.
