788 trigger ?
« on: October 24, 2010, 01:19:00 PM »
I went to the plantion range did fine for the first 10 shots and then the trigger got really hard to pull. I would squease the trigger for about 5-7 seconds before it finally broke. That was way to long to stay on target at 300yds. I cleaned the trigger group when i got home. Does anybody know any thing about these triggers ?

Has your safety been updated? If I remember right there was a recall on the 788's safety, you can try pulling the bolt out and cleaning both it and the safety, check it by dry firing to see if normal trigger function is restored.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

If I am remembering right the recall was to fix the trigger problem you originally described.

I got the gun from a freind he bought it used, never had it sent in. Do I need to contact remington? I dont want to spend $120 for a timney, are those my only options?

You may also be able to get the parts to retrofit it yourself but I would call Remington and have them check the serial to find out what if anything has been done first.

Thanks for the info. I'll check with remington.  I like the rifle (compared to my 7 rum) its light, compact and cheap to shoot.

Did a check with remington, not eligable for saftey recall. Cleaning the trigger  group and bolt helped. Do you know if a smith can do a trigger job? And if he can about how much would it cost?
