This is all classic pre-rut behavior, commonly called the "chase phase". Peak breeding is still off a ways and is often noted by a sudden decrease in buck sightings. This is because they have a doe locked down in an out-of-the-way spot until she will let him breed her. Following the peak breeding phase, comes the trolling phase where bucks will set out to scent check doe bedding areas and trail systems in search of more receptive does.
