Good lay out boat?

Ive been thinking about getting a layout boat one of the lakes i hunt has no launch anybody know some good relatively inexpensive layout boats?

Cheapest one out there is the Marsh Rat I believe.  Only thing I don't like about it is the new plastic model deforms pretty bad when layed on various items or when it gets hot.

The house I bought has a pulley system in the garage for a meduim sized boat, and was wondering if that would deform a plastic boat?

Make sure to store the 'rat out of direct sunlight and it should last a while. I've also found that it is just not really possible to hunt with a dog out of the rat. Just not enough room with decoys and gear IMHO.

I don't think you'd want to build one while the season is going on due to time and weather issues (for the resin), but if you end up waiting until post-season spring/summer you could always build your own. Fun project and it's reasonably forgiving. I built the SN over the tail end of the summer and am quite happy with it, especially considering how very not handy I am. Takes a bit to get used to paddling around though - I'm looking for a 2hp for mine.

I've got a friend with an Aquapod and he loves it, so I don't think you could go wrong there if you aren't wanting to build.

I have a buddy with 2 aqua pods that i've hunted with... pretty good.

I was told to stick with the older models as well if you can still find them because they take the water better as well.

I have a lumber rack on my s-10 and was thinking of getting some kind of a layout for me and the hound... my chessie Chief... would you go with an aquapad the big one, or would youmake one from that web site and find a cheep 2 hp motor? I would like a lay out but won't leave the dog at home.... About how much does it cost to make one of those?

Depends what type of water you are going to hunt in. Back home in the swamps we used pirogue's. Here we use Aqua pods out on the salt. What ever you get, Im sure you'll love it!

I built two hybrids, owned an aquapod. I think the best thong would be a 12 fiberglass aqua pod and teach the dog to keep his head down.
