How many years has it been since you have had to start notching your tag on the Month and Date?

I assumed it has always been that way. But, I have only been hunting deer since 1982.

It was a metal tag back in the 30's through 50's.  It permanently clamped on the bones.

Started hunting in 75, had to do it then. I have a rack that has a metal tag on from 1942.

I've got some of my Grandfathers tags from the 60ies.  Notched the month and day back then.

some states still use the metal tags for interstate game tags and hide seals though

ICEMAN, wasn't sure when it started, my brother a got a ticket from the game warden for not notching it right after he took it down. We had just dragged it up the cayon 400 yards and set it on the truck to take pictures. We were getting ready to notch tag then the game warden came and issued him the ticket, we really had just got to the top of the canyon where my truck was parked. It was his first deer and with all the excitment he had forgot to do it right away. Thought that it was sort of harsh. He had his tag on there the whole time we were dragging the deer out. We are very ethical hunters and explained to him to it was just an honest mistake. It was a 152.00 ticket and he told us that he could have gave him an 360.00 ticket. Thought a warning might have been nice.
