float tube skagit bay?

I was wondering if its safe? I have fins,tube,p.f.d. and some deeks. I was thinking the big ditch or fir is. What are the rules as far as distance from the dyke at Lervig farm? meaning how far does the refuge go into the bay?

No, not safe.  You run a big risk of getting stuck in the mud.

all the places you listed are already overcrowded so the float tube wouldn't help with the less people issue. I think a tube can be used in certain situations but I wouldn't want to shoot from it, and like mentioned I'm not sure I'd use it in the mud flats.

dont do it with seals around! My brother was our duck dog in the float tube with one flipper and a seal got a little curious! It ended up about 15-20 ft away and scared the  out of him! We had no idea what it was going to do but luckily it went away. I dont think a lot of people know how big these things actually are!

I wouldn't use a float tube in the bay.  The current starts to rip in certain spots.  You don't want to take the ride through Deception pass.

The ponds off the dike on fir island should be good .We carried a boat in their and did good. About 5 feet deep at high tide and about 1 foot high at low tide.

i met a guy that snow goose hunted that way on calm sunny windless days... I kinda think he had big brass balls that clanked when he walked!

I spent a real short period of time trying to decide if I could float-tube fly fish off of Kayak Pt. then I decided that I don't have brass balls that clank when I walk....so so so many possible things to go wrong from strong tides to big boats to seals to I don't know what else.

I hope he is not the same guy that I saw in a float tube that just finished up his hunt in the refuge in Padilla Bay.  I also thought he must have some big brass balls to do that.  I know I wouldn't have.  He was thank full I let him know as he was going to hunt it again.  He said he was going back over to Skagit Bay to hunt.

No this guy was dressed in white and "walked" on the bottom to go kill geese... usually from the big dich near Stanwood... that was about 10 yrs  ago tho...

Yeah..you'd need some big girl panties to go out in a tube. You could use a tube for some of the lakes locally but, not in the flats. Good luck this season

That is NOT a good idea. That water is really cold and the tides are NOT anything to mess with. I went out in a 14ft flat bottom last year alone with a 6 horse outboard. I pulled my dekes and was messing with them in my boat for a while and when I looked up I was about 1/2mile from where I thought I was and it was raining so hard and blowing I couldnt tell which way was which.

There was easily a 3' chop and the waves were coming from 2 different directions (wind and tide) I couldnt tell which way was which I knew the wind was blowing from the north that day but it was like being in the middle of a soup bowl that day.

I guess a float tube in the bay is a bad idea. maybe the ponds at headquarters. thanks for the reality-check
