Young Guns Hammer Skagit Snows
« on: October 25, 2010, 04:51:55 PM »

Hunted Saturday and found quick success in Skagit County. We started with a scout of the area on Thursday and found a few:

Set up and waited for the opening flight. A bull sprig made the first wrong move of the day.

Then the geese started moving. A group of cacklers decided to commit suicide and we collected 3.

When the wind picked up it was steady on singles , doubles and a triple.

Can't wait to go again soon. Ended up with 8 snows, 3 cacklers, and 1 bull sprig.

Go get some.

T-Rip, Out-

Looks like a good Saturday hunt.  We had the field next to this one on the Saturday draw and passed it up as we figured it would be dead.  Fortunately they had tractors working on the snow goose reserve which kicked them all out of there.  It made good hunting for a lot of groups.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

that is a good day. Did you get the boys to help clean the birds too?

Yes, they are getting it down, first we breasted them for grilling (I have a killer marinade recipe), then pulled the skins and used the carcasses/thighs/ legs etc. for goose soup and stock....Delicious on these windy cool nights.

We started them on doves on the 1st, and moved to ducks on the youth opener, and now geese. ...if I can now get them to gut and skin their own deer we would be in great shape!

LOL nice work  ;) i figured dad had a big pile o geese to clean.

I like to save as much of the carcass as is reasonable as well. I have made some really good teryaki goose drumsticks and wings. Have fried up the internals from time to time too. heart, etc.
