Ellensburg side of Colockum
« on: October 26, 2010, 11:13:59 AM »
Iv'e been up on the Wenatchee side of the colockum for a few years, and know what a zoo it is. Thinking of going up the Ellensburg side this year, Iv'e heard the road is a lot better over there. We are taking the cab over camper. Just wondering if its hit as hard or if they have there own shooting gallery over there?? Nobodys spots, but asking for a little info on that side. Thanks...

It's a pumpkin patch! I go there every year and it seems to get worse every year. There are still spots to get into with less people. If theres snow up there the roads won't be any better. Good luck!

I don't rifle hunt but my parents live on Cooke Canyon Rd and there is easily 100+ hunters that go by their place starting on Wednesday. I also lived on Colockum Rd 3 years ago during hunting season and it was the same 100+ hunters driving by everyday starting on Wednesday. So it is crowded but I stay out of the hills during that time so I have no idea about the shooting gallery.

dont mean to sound discouraging.....but the ellensburg side of colockum is the most heavily hunted. theyve done alot of logging so theres orange behind every tree. ive hunted it for 15yrs and my dad has for 40+yrs and its BY FAR the worst weve seen it already....it a bummer

It is a zoo! Lots and lots of hunters. Shoot to put the elk down quick. If it runs very far, you will lose it! I still love elk hunting up there, its only and hour away from my place so day trips are fine!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

yeah switching sides isn't going to cut down on the zoo numbers.
