Feel Free to Hunt Question
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:23:23 PM »
Hoping you all can help as I have never hunted in Eastern Wa.

On the Go Hunt map I see a lot of Feel Free to Hunt symbols around Lower Crab Creek. There is a release site there but I would love to get my pup on some wild birds. Well, I guess I would like to get on some too  :)

Anyone have any experience with this area? Is it clearly marked and safe? Are there a good number of birds?

Or is there a better place to head to?

Thanks in advance!

PM sent.
Are you thinking of heading over there for the pheasant opener?

Crab Creek is just as good as anything, if you're not willing to drive to where the bird hunting is really good. I would avoid opening weekend there though. It tends to get a little crowded.

Good to know, Bobcat. I have never been there for the opener. The times that I have been there were not crowded.

Bobcat,
If you are willing to drive where the bird hunting is really good, where would you suggest?  I'm looking for Pheasants.

You will get your rig broken into around crab creek.  Just sayin.  3 different buddies this year alone.  Be alert and cautious.

Thanks for the info guys. Decided not to go to crab creek. Haven't heard or read anything good about it. Plus saw in the hunting dog forums where a guy had two of his dogs hammered by a porcupine.

I have a stepson in Spokane who can get us on some private lands. So will not waste my time with crab creek.

Happy hunting!

The pheasant release site is on the Crab Creek Wildlife Area. There is FFTH land around there.

Some of the FFTH land do get a few birds, but not to the amount of numbers that the actual release sites get. And some landowners actually pay to have a few birds put on their property as well.
