Wildlife Program AD resigned.
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:06:29 PM »
Just got this from a friend:

Quote
WDFW Staff Members:

I am writing to make you aware of a change in the Department’s Executive Management Team.  Dave Pulliam was selected as our Assistant Director of the Wildlife Program in July and has since been working hard to become knowledgeable about the Program’s major issues and traveling across the state meeting both staff members and stakeholders.  In a recent discussion with Dave he shared with me some personal thoughts and his need to leave his employment with WDFW.  We wish Dave well as he moves to the next chapter in his life that likely includes a lot more fishing and hunting here in Washington.

We will immediately begin our recruitment process for a new Assistant Director.   In the interim, Nate Pamplin has agreed to serve as Acting Assistant Director of the Wildlife Program.  We will do a broad solicitation for candidates over a 4-week time period and hope to have our new person in place by January 1.  In the meantime, the Regional Directors will join Joe Stohr and myself in helping Nate and the rest of the Program through this transition.   As always, if you have any questions please give me a call or send me an e-mail.

Phil Anderson
Director
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Rumor has it that Dave Pulliam couldn't put up with the agency/program and told Phil to take the job and shove it.  You should see a job announcement at http://wdfw.wa.gov/employment/ soon.  Not sure why Phil stated he started in July, his first day was the day I was cleaning out my desk (May 13).  I had to ask him to move so I could get my termination packet from Nate.
Disclaimer:  These are not the views of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.  These are the thoughts of one person written off the clock who formally worked for WDFW.

I don't know anything about Dave Pulliam but from this statement it's obvious he's into hunting and fishing:

So... it seems this may not be a positive thing as I can just see the person they put in to replace him could be a non-hunter or worse yet a butterfly/squirrel/wolf lover. I'd sure like to see the WDFW focus more on hunting than "wildlife watching" and it would be nice if all of the upper management people in the DFW were hunters themselves. It will be interesting to see who ends up in this position.

Thanks for posting this!

I don't see all the $$ that the WDFW thinks they bring in by "Wildlife watchers" how many extra parking passes or boat launch passes do they sell? cannot be enough for them to make any REAL money????
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I think its more of an ideological shift with lip service to how much actual $$ is generated to support the ideology.  Kind of like the "collective" push in the upper Methow to move from promoting snowmobiles to Cross Country Skiing.  When I was working up there a lot of business's were discovering that the Cross Country Skiers were a lot tighter with there purse strings than the snowmobile crowd.

Sometimes the Ideology is cutting there own throat.  I would bet dollars to donuts that the "green crowd"  spends a lot less to the state and the overall economy as a whole compared to the hunting and fishing crowd.  But the Green crowd is more interested in the Ideology with the economical affects be damned.  Adjusting the "economics" to fit the idea instead of the idea to fit the economics.
