Ross versus SNow

Is a Ross' goose protected.   If so, how the hell do you tell them from a Snow.   Smaller yes, but that seems like it could be hard

Both are legal. It is tough to identify in flight, unless they are together. On the ground the Ross has a smaller bill (around 1.25 inches), while the snows bill is longer (2-2.5 inches). The Ross is usually about the size of a big mallard.

It's like shooting a cackler vs. a Lessor.  The ross will be the smaller one of the two.  I have also shot the snow on roids that looked like a honker as well.  I had it mounted.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Hey bone, I think the only problem a hunter in the field would have in identifiying them is if a flock of Ross only flew in.  If you have snows and ross mixed I think you can be able to clearly tell the difference due to the size.  Just my 2 cents worth.  h2ofowlr I would like to see a pic of the big snow as well bud.  John
