Waterfowl hunting on JBLM.
« on: October 27, 2010, 05:05:32 PM »
I would like to try waterfowl hunting this year and when i signed up at Fort Lewis i signed up for waterfowl and phesants also. I have never hunted either and am going to start some where, sence its close to home, maybe start there.

Any advise on hunting JBLM or any advise for a new comer to waterfowl hunting?

Talked with Ribka about going with him some time but we have not set a date

Any advise on the release areas for phesants too  :dunno:

Gasman if you head out to ft lewis and find the training areas open to hunting, look for water. I think area 2 if I remember right was an easy access point with short hike to flooded marsh. waders, shotgun, handful of deeks and watch what the ducks do. good luck!

Gasman- I don't know much about the Fort Lewis area as I hunt mostly Eastern Washington but I would be happy to bring ya along on a hunt if you want. PM me if interested.

I hunt JBLM with my daughter and just got my brother into it too. There arent many birds out there yet. Be careful to be in the correct training areas or you can find yourself in a heap of trouble. I like hunting out there bacause its close and I can just get away. Most of the ponds and smaller marshes have yielded birds when cold and wet out. Try getting a large foldout map from range control, the small one you can get you signed up is just to small. Stay off the pheasant release on release days. To many guns in a small area, hunt residual days(the days after the release), you can be out there all day.
We interupt this marriage to bring you hunting season...
