My boys first deer.(doe)
« on: October 27, 2010, 06:28:14 PM »
We have been hitting the Olympic unit pretty hard looking for a buck for my son. He drew a doe tag for the Olympic unit so we had something to fall back on. I was getting nervous because we haven't seen much of anything. We put on alot of miles walking and driving but found nothing. When my boy got home from school we headed out to a clearcut to get set up before anyone else got there. I placed my boy on a stump as I walked alittle glassing and looking for tracks. I found some fresh deer tracks so I walked back to him and sat down. 5minutes later a big doe walked out of the woods. My boy checked her out and said that one would do. He stood up and let off a shot. He hit her but the doe walked into the woods. I could tell she was hit so we stood there for a while and waited. She came back out in the clear-cut and walked off as if nothing was wrong. I glassed her and could tell she was hit so we walked towards her. My boy took a shot at her missed and the second shot hit and she dropped. We gave each other several high fives took some pictures and he watched me gut it and drag to the truck 3/4 of a mile. I guess it is going to be a cold winter. This doe had more fat on her than I have ever seen. What a day to spend with my boy. Now he cant wait for elk season

My daughters whitetail was fat too!! My Muley doe was actually not that fat. I'm not sure if Muleys just "dont pack it on" as it was my first Muley but the Whity was like your boy's, very fat indeed.

He was using a 20ga with slugs. We were hunting in a shotgun only area. I forgot to to mention after we took some pictures he asked are you going to put pictures of my deer on your hunting message board. I told him heck ya. He just gave me a big smile.
