Nice work! Hey Charlie- what percent of a deers body weight (on average) are their guts? I know that with a bear its about 20% but have never seen the stats on a deer....We have killed a few bt's feild dressed at 180-190 and always wondered what they would be on the hoof. I think the blacky I got the other day would be pushing 225 real easy..Grats to your ol' lady!

Hey KimberRich, Thats the same scale I have . In fact I just went out and hung from it just to double check and it is spot on with my bathroom scale so I would say it is pretty accurate  ;)

That's awesome.  Thanks for the info.

All of the charts I have seen for bear show 15-16%.

Looks like the guts are about 20% on deer by the 2 bucks I weighed this week. 220 live 175 gutted had 45 pounds of guts and that is 0.2045  or basically 20% and the other was 200 live, 160 gutted so 40 pounds of guts or 0.20 or 20%. I think I did the figures right.

Thanks for the weight information. I am allways interested in weights. Most people estimate and they are all over the place.

If the deer is strong or tough, grind it all. We take the best burger meat (all, on a old buck). Take 21 pounds of lean meat, mix with 4 pounds of pork jowl meat and grind together, mix well. I buy the breakfast season packet from Eggers in the Spokane area. I imagine butcher shops all over the state have a sausage mix, Smokey Ridge in Chewelah has there version which is good.  They will have it bulk or in packages for 25 pounds of meat. Mix in very well and regrind. This is the best breakfast sausage patties you can imagine. My wife will make a George Forman size patty and cook. There will be almost zero fat drip out and wounderfull taste. Good for spaghetti also.

Those old veteran bucks are true trophies no matter how many points they have..poor old boy probably had enough after loosing his last fight.

I shot this fella this morning, wish I had a scale to throw him on.  Sucker ripped the lag bolt I had my gambrel on out of the rafter.  He's pretty stout I go about 205 lbs.http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g364/danpassmore/P1020214.jpg
