Yes, the action stays open and the next round stays in the mag and doesn't come up. Last weekend it was doing it from time time on Saturday and then on Sunday stopped shooting the 2nd shot period, but YES the action does stay open.
Messed with it a little more this weekend. NOT a magazine spring problem, as I took that out to check it. When a round is in the mag tube, even if you manually pull open the action it will not release the round to chamber. Have to physically move the rail to get a shell out of the magazine tube. I too have always shot an 870 and starting to think I may want a pump gun again if this keeps up.

Is the carrier under pressure from the release spring? if not that might be the issue. You might also pull the trigger group and check that the carrier lelease lever is not damaged. Also check and see if the carrier release pin is not missing. After that someone with more knowledge than I would need to check it out.ShootmooreTake the trigger group out and bolt hose it down with gun scrub or carburetor cleaner. A lot of times when using aerosol spray oils they can change the un-burnt powder into cellulose membrane. This can cover parts without seeing it and it will jug up the entire works. I’ve seen this on 1100’s and SP-10 that I purchased because they did not function and got them cheap. Also check your gas ports, O rings and everything mentioned in the above suggestions.
